Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) has taken root in and been growing with Wan Chai since its establishment 40 years ago. To mark its 40th Anniversary in 2012, Hopewell sponsored the publication of the book “40 Happy Wan Chai Stories” which records the happy memories of 40 people who worked or lived in Wan Chai. Sir Gordon Wu, Chairman of Hopewell, has been invited to share his Wan Chai stories. Other interviewees include Mr Lai Kam Cheung of St. James’ Settlement; Ms Louisa So, graduate of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts; Ms Stella So, renowned local illustrator; Mr Chan Tak-fai, Chief Coach of Tai Hang Fire Dragon; and students of Hennessy Road Government Primary AM School.

The press conference of “40 Happy Wan Chai Stories” was held on 17 July at View 62, the revolving restaurant at Hopewell Centre. Ms Cheng Man-wah, editor of the book and some of the interviewees shared their happy Wan Chai stories at the press conference. Mr Richard Law, Ms Lana Chong and Ms Lily Chong, members of the CSR Sub-Committee of Hopewell, also attended the event to show Hopewell’s support to the book launch.

The “40 Happy Wan Chai Stories” was available for free at the Customer Services Centre on 3rd Floor of Hopewell Centre. Hopewell hopes that through the publication of the book, readers can share the secrets of happiness of people living and working in the district.
