| Hopewell Supports Playright’s Hospital Play Development Project | | | 17 Dec 2011
Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) has announced that it will sponsor the Playright Children Play Association’s (“Playright”) 2-year Hospital Play Development Project including the ‘Play Actions of Hospital Play Youth Ambassador Group’. As the kick-off, the "HH Social Club Christmas Play Event" was held at Panda Hotel on Saturday, 17 December 2011. Over 110 young patients aged between 2 and 19 years old with chronic illness and their families were invited to celebrate Christmas through a series of play activities, performances and buffet.
A cheque presentation ceremony for the donation of HK$200,000 symbolized the official start of the collaboration. 9 Playright Hospital Play Youth Ambassadors (“Youth Ambassadors”) joint hands with nearly 100 HH Social Club volunteers, comprising Hopewell staff, their families and friends and Hong Kong athletes, to inspire the young patients from Princess Margaret Hospital, Caritas Medical Centre and Kwong Wah Hospital and their families to appreciate the value of play through the carefully designed games and performances and to celebrate Christmas.
Many hospitalized children receiving long-term treatment are having relatively less contact with the outside world and thus are lacking care from the society. Through training and practices, the ‘Play Actions of Hospital Play Youth Ambassador Group’ aims to empower Youth Ambassadors with chronic illness who have benefited from hospital play services. They then pass on their care and support to other child patients through hospital play service to help them recover more speedily. |
| Hopewell’s Lee Tung Street Project Achieves a BEAM 4/04 Certificate - 'Platinum Standard' | | | 01 Dec 2011
The on-going Lee Tung Street project, jointly developed by Hopewell Holdings Limited ("Hopewell"/ "the Group") and Sino Land Company Limited, has achieved a Provisional BEAM 4/04 Certificate–"Platinum Standard". The certification recognises Hopewell’s outstanding practices in the environmental design and construction of this project.
The Lee Tung Street Project is an Urban Renewal Authority (URA) redevelopment project in Wan Chai, and has incorporated redevelopment, heritage conservation, revitalization and green elements.
Significant reduction in carbon emissions
According to the BEAM report on the Lee Tung Street Project, it is estimated the environmental features of the project will reduce carbon emissions up to 20 percent, or the equivalent of planting 170,000 trees per year, which is about 20 percent of the total tree planting in Hong Kong every year. The final assessment shall be conducted upon the completion of the project.
HK-BEAM (Building Environmental Assessment Method) is Hong Kong’s most widely recognised industry benchmark to measure, improve and label the environmental sustainability of buildings. HK-BEAM integrates the assessment of many key aspects of building performance, including land use, site aspects, use of materials, energy efficiency, water quality, indoor environmental quality and innovations.
Hopewell is committed to developing green buildings, and has incorporated environmental and energy conservation features and adopted bio friendly materials in the construction of property projects. | Hopewell and St. James’ Settlement Collaborate to Develop Sports Potential of Minority Intellectually Disabled Youths | | | 21 Oct 2011
The 5th Hopewell Bowling Invitation League / 2011 Hopewell Bowling Charity League co-organised by the Hopewell Holdings Limited ("Hopewell") and Hong Kong Bowling City was held on 21 October 2011 at the Hong Kong Bowling City in Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre ("KITEC") with overwhelming success. A total of over HKD80,000 was raised for the "Strike" Bowling Programme of St. James’ Settlement ("SJS") to develop the sports potential of minority intellectual disabled youths.
The annual Hopewell bowling competition aims to encourage staff members of local companies and organisations to actively participate in bowling sports and to promote work-life balance. This year’s League, themed "Strike for Charity", seeked support from the business community for a charitable cause, fulfilling the responsibilities as good corporate citizens. A total of 45 teams from renowned companies and organisations joined the League to compete for the Team and Singles Events awards. A celebrity team formed by artists Mr. Leung Sze Ho, Ms. Lai Ming Si, Mr. Gilbert Lam and Hong Kong Bowling Youth Athletes Mr. Tony Wong and Ms. Victoria Chan, as well as the two "Strike" Bowling Teams were also on the alleys together during the competition. This truly reflects the integration of the disable persons and the able-bodied.
Hopewell, in collaboration with their community partner, SJS, kicked off the "Strike" Bowling Programme this summer to train intellectual disabled youths with the ultimate goal of training athletes to participate in the 37th Hong Kong Special Olympics. |
| Hopewell’s First Sustainability Report Achieves Global Reporting Initiative Application Level B | | | 07 Oct 2011
Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) announced the release of its first Sustainability Report 2010/2011 (“the Report”), elaborating on its commitment to a high degree of sustainability in its operations.
Hopewell Holdings is the pioneer among Hong Kong listed conglomerates to issue a sustainability report. The Report, titled “Hopewell Focuses on Sustainability”, is written according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) sustainability report G3.1 framework and was checked and concluded by GRI for fulfilling the requirement of Application Level B. The Report provides a comprehensive account of Hopewell’s sustainability framework, management approach and accomplishments in addressing environmental, social and governance issues during the year and highlights areas where Hopewell wants to improve in the future.
To strengthen the Group’s management efforts in promoting sustainability, HHL and its subsidiary, Hopewell Highway Infrastructure Limited, established a formal Sustainability Steering Committee to set future directions and formulate initiatives related to sustainability issues across the Group. The Report will serve as a benchmark for monitoring the development and progress of the Group’s corporate sustainability programme. It also reflects Hopewell’s long-term commitment in corporate sustainability. The Group would like to bring positive influence to the business sector and to drive the implementation of sustainability initiatives, in order to benefit stakeholders and the general public. |
| Hopewell and Hopewell Highway Infrastructure Sponsor the Succssful "A Century of China" Show in Support of Civic Education | | | 04 Jul 2011
In its efforts to support youth education, Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) and Hopewell Highway Infrastructure Limited (“HHI”) have become the principal sponsors of the large-scale multimedia show entitled “A Century of China”, jointly produced by Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (“HKFYG”) and Radio Television Hong Kong.
The show, showcasing the last hundred years of China's history through a first-of-its-kind multimedia production, was held at Star Hall, Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre (“KITEC”) on 4th and 5th July 2011. KITEC was the venue sponsor for the event. The premiere show was officiated by Mr Albert Yeung, Executive Director of Hopewell, Mr John Tsang, Finance Secretary of Hong Kong SAR, Mr. Wang Zhi Min, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Mr Zhan Yongxin, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the HKSAR, Mr Michael Suen, Secretary for Education and Ms Rosanna Wong, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. The show, aimed at enhancing young people’s understanding of Chinese history and culture, has been a huge success, with over 15,000 secondary students and teachers viewing the programme.
