Hopewell Centre and QRE Plaza Participate in the Environmental Protection Department's Food Waste Collection Pilot Scheme

27 May 2024

Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) has integrated sustainable development measures into its various operational levels to further fulfill its environmental responsibilities. Hopewell supports the two-year "Food Waste Collection Pilot Scheme" launched by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), encouraging its Hopewell Centre and QRE Plaza restaurant tenants to participate in recycling leftover food waste, contributing to environmental protection.

Through the joint efforts of the Leasing Department and Property Management Department, the majority of Hopewell Centre and some QRE Plaza restaurant tenants have participated in the scheme. In addition to promoting the scheme to all restaurant tenants at the beginning of the year to help them understand the details, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) provided on-site training, distributed promotional posters, and explained the process and key points of food waste recycling to the participating tenants on May 27th. The tenants have been participating in the scheme since June 1st, sending their food waste to the recycling point on the 4th floor of Hopewell Centre to be converted into energy and fertilizer.

During the six-month trial period, the EPD will provide the participating tenants with recycling bins and garbage bags, and arrange two to three follow-up inspections to provide technical support, helping to solve any operational difficulties encountered by the tenants and thereby increasing the recycling volume. Hopewell will continue to work closely with the EPD and the HKPC to encourage more tenants to participate in the scheme, contributing to a sustainable future for Hong Kong.
