140 Volunteers from Hopewell and St. James Settlement to Bring Festive Joy to Singleton Elderly at Tuen Ng Festival

01 Jun 2013

Hopewell Holdings Limited (“Hopewell”) again launched the Tuen Ng Volunteer Visit to Elderly on 1 June 2013 with St. James Settlement in hopes of spreading love to the community. This year, the team consisted of 110 long time supporting HH Social Club members, as well as its business partners, family and friends to form the volunteer team with 140 members who came from different sectors of society. The Volunteer Team has truly demonstrated the spirit of love, unity and the communal harmony, visiting 140 units of singleton elderly in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Kwun Tong, Kwai Chung and Kwai Fong. The total number of beneficiaries in Tuen Ng Volunteer Visit Program reached 800 this year. The love shown by the volunteers had warmed the hearts of recipients.

Build Harmonious Society

The event was one of the programmes under “Caring Hong Kong” of “Hong Kong: Our Home”, the citywide public participation campaign launched by the Government. Upholding the Campaign’s mission to “foster mutual help among neighbours and encourage people to show care and concern for the under-privileged and the disadvantaged”, Hopewell aimed to bring laughter and joy to the singleton elderly from St. James’ Funeral Navigation Service by bringing forces from different demographics into this ‘HH Social Club’ Tuen Ng Volunteer Visit.

Representatives from St. James introduced the training through the cases with the team prior to the visits, which enabled volunteers to develop better communication with the elderly and at the same time identify their needs, the elderly will be follow up by St. James and provide appropriate treatment to them. Hopewell also purchased some exquisite velvet pins handmade by St. James’ members as presents to convey its deep thankfulness toward volunteers. The warmhearted Panda Hotel volunteers made rice dumplings with “Five Grains” and in a lighter size, which better suit the appetite of the elderly. Volunteers brought the Hopewell-St. James sponsored bags of presents and shared the festive love and care to the singleton elderly.
